Obituary for Evelyn G. Patterson (Grubaugh)

Evelyn G. Patterson (Grubaugh)
Evelyn G. Patterson (nee Grubaugh), 96, peacefully passed away October 30, 2014.
She was born in Loudonville, Ohio on July 13,1918 to Wilbert and Phoebe Grubaugh. At a young age Evelyn and her family moved to North Hill in Akron and she graduated from Akron North High School in 1936. After completing Business College in Akron, she worked for Ohio Edison and later became a hard working, beloved and respected employee at General Electric. She retired from General Electric in 1981. She married James (Jim) R. Patterson in 1942. After Jim returned from WW II, they had a house built in East Akron where they raised their two children. Evelyn’s husband Jim passed away in 1966 and Evelyn continued to work at General Electric and single handedly support and raise her sons, Jim and Greg. She moved to Stow in 1986 and was happy and comfortable living right next door to family. She was able to remain in the same dwelling until her passing.
She loved and was loved by all who knew her; family, friends, helpers and coworkers. She always had a smile for everyone, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a very active lady all of her life, putting much effort into organizing family reunions and visiting and staying in touch with her family and friends. As a member of Holy Family Church she volunteered for Adoration Hour, Senior Group and Christ Crafters. She seldom missed the 5:00 Saturday mass. After retirement she was involved with the North Hill AARP Chapter, volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels, participated in Tallmadge Seniors Exercise, GE Associates, Kissin’ Cousins, Bowling, Bridge Club and many more. In addition to taking many bus tours with AARP, she also travelled to England, Scotland, and Japan.
She was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching golf on TV. In 1980 she got a hole-in-one. She didn’t like watching football because “it’s too rough.” She will be missed by her good friend and golf buddy Lois. She rarely missed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy on TV and always responded “Good!” when someone she was watching with got an answer right.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert and Phoebe; her husband Jim; and her brother Wayne and his wife Micki. She is survived by her sister Sandra (Bob) Roeger; sons Jim (Janice) and Greg (Sally); grandchildren Ann Marie, James, Richard, Carrie, Lauren; great grandchildren Mya, Farin, Charlotte, Leo; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins including Joanne Worcester.
Evelyn’s family extends their deepest thanks to all of those who have helped Evelyn be able to remain healthy and happy living in her home. |

As Evelyn would say, "Treat each other good," and "That sure was a great party!"
