Obituary for Gerald Sporn

Gerald Sporn
Gerald L. Sporn, 83, a lifelong resident of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio died Tuesday, April 14, 2015 in the company of his family.
Born in Akron, he was the son of the late Gerald W. and treasured mother, Lucille Sporn. He is preceded in death by his sister Sally Pickett and his daughter, Jerri Lynn Haeberle; and is survived by his beloved brother Jack D. (Becky) Sporn, his daughters, Stephanie Sporn and Patti Edmiston, 8 grandchildren, Gregg, Barbara, Dustin, Joan, Stefan, Jack, Lily, and Julian; 9 great-grandchildren.
Jerry was a graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School, and went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954 rising to the rank of Sergeant. Upon his return to Ohio, he began his career with the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier.
It is his work with the Postal Service and his undying devotion to the National Association of Letter Carriers that Jerry would like to be remembered most. Jerry was a letter carrier for 28 years, where he earned a reputation for his honest hard work and ability to help people solve conflicts. He was elected President of Branch 1629 of the NALC, and worked for the National Association of Letter Carriers as a regional administrative assistant. As a union labor negotiator, Jerry worked hard to protect the rights and jobs of the postal workers locally, regionally, and nationally as a representative for the NALC.
Jerry was well known for, his understanding of hard work, his skills in negotiating, and his dedication to the working man. Summer Post Office Picnics, birthday dinners at Gus’s Chalet, Thanksgiving, and talking politics were always special times for family, friends, and brothers. He will be loved and missed.
Memorial Services will be held 2pm Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the Northwest Avenue Church, 737 Northwest Ave. Tallmadge Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Greater Akron, 7966 Darrow Rd. Twinsburg, Ohio 44087
