Obituary for Donald "Don" Vitullo

Donald "Don" Vitullo
Donald Michael Vitullo of Stow, Ohio died Thursday, April 21 following a short illness that culminated in pneumonia at the age of 79. Don, a proud son of Italian immigrants grew up in Youngstown’s Brier Hill. He graduated from Rayen High School in 1956, served in the U.S. Army’s Occupation Force in Germany in 1957 and went to work at the Youngstown Sheet & Tube as a steelworker after his discharge. He married Elizabeth “Betty” D’Urso, his high school sweetheart, in 1958 and built a life and family with Betty for the next 58 years.In 1964, Don left the steel mills in Youngstown and began a life-long career as an autoworker on the Chrysler assembly lines at the Twinsburg Stamping Plant where he rose to become a General Foreman until his retirement. To be closer to work, he moved his family to Stow, Ohio in 1965 and became an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church where he served as a lay minister while becoming a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. Don and Betty spent their lives supporting their family, making friends, helping others and traveling the U.S. and the world. Never shy, he wore his heart on his sleeve, talked to anyone he met and left an impression everywhere he went. Don leaves behind his wife Betty; younger brothers Jerry and Sammy; his children Mark, Rick, Andrew and Marianne; his grandchildren Andrew, Gina and Joseph; and hundreds of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends in the U.S. and Italy.He was preceded in death by his father Romulo “Raymond” Vitullo, his mother Mary, his brother Johnny “Red” Vitullo and his sister Philamena “Philly” Pavilinic.
