Obituary for Gerald L. "Jerry" Hunt

Gerald L. "Jerry"  Hunt
Gerald (Jerry) Hunt, age 66, of Stow, Ohio, passed away February 6, 2017 surrounded by his loving family after a 14 month courageous battle with brain cancer. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 36 years, Susan (nee Port); daughters Christine (Corey) Golupski, Nicole (Patrick) Kane, and Amy Hunt; 6 grandchildren, Jayden, Courtney, Hannah, Carter, Chase, and Bailey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Neal and Millie Hunt.
Jerry served in the U.S. Navy on the Truckee during the Vietnam War, from 1968-1972, where he was the lead mechanic on the ship. After the military, he started working as a car mechanic and was later certified as one of the lead Master Technicians for Volkswagen, retiring in 2010 after working in the car industry for over 40 years.
Jerry was very active in his daughters’ lives. When they were younger, he was their Stow soccer coach and always present at all their activities. He was very proud of all of their accomplishments.
One of Jerrys favorite activities was spending time with his family on Lake Erie, boating and fishing for walleye. He especially loved all the time spent with his grandchildren who held his heart.
Jerry always had a great story to tell about his experiences and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home, 3333 Kent Rd, Stow, OH 44224 where funeral service will be held 11:00 am on Thursday, February 16, 2017. Interment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery following.
