Obituary for Edward James Neher

Edward J. Neher, 90, of Stow, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 6, after a brief stay in Akron General Hospital.
He was the husband of Elizabeth J. Neher of Stow.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ed was the son of the late Carl Neher and Margaret (Cousins) Neher.
He served in the occupation of Japan just after World War II, playing trombone in a U.S. Army band. Employed as an industrial engineer until his retirement in 1989, Ed was a lifelong enthusiast of photography, music, and the outdoors. He spent recent years building and designing things for his growing family and playing tuba and other instruments in several local musical groups that played in retirement centers and elsewhere.
Ed was a member of Celebration Church in Akron.
In addition to his wife Elizabeth, Ed is survived by a son, James Neher, and his wife, Judith, of Reading, Pennsylvania, and two daughters, Margaret Neher of Ithaca, New York, and Kathleen Rippel, and her husband, John, of Stow. He has two sisters, Ilaine Dickerman and Rosaline Searight, both of Northport, New York. He has six grandchildren: Jeffrey Neher, and his wife, Amy, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Daniel and Timothy Neher of Reading, Pennsylvania, and Lisa, Rebecca, and David Rippel, of Stow.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 12 at 2:00 p.m., at Celebration Church on Dan Street in Akron. Family and friends may call Saturday from 1:00 until service time at the church.
