Obituary for Maxine L. Markovich (Henry)

Maxine L. Markovich, 95, passed away on January 10, 2019, surrounded by her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

She was born in Coal Grove, Ohio, on June 29, 1923, to the late Arthur and Margaret Henry. The family later moved to Akron, and she resided there the rest of her life. In 1942, she married her husband of 47 years, Peter, Sr., who died in 1990.

Maxine was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Sharon, as well as her brothers, Willard, Vernon, George, and Robert. She is survived by her son, Peter, Jr. (Laurel) of Akron; daughters, Sandra L. (Stephen) Weber of Canal Fulton and Susan K. Markovich of Canton; grandchildren, Stephanie Porter and Jeffrey (Miechelle) Weber of Canal Fulton; and great-grandchildren, Ava, Lucas, and Hayley of Canal Fulton; brother, Lyle Henry of Bullhead City, Arizona; sister-in-law, Kathleen Markovich of Akron; and many nephews, nieces, and friends including special friend, Jan Muni.

Maxine was loved and will be missed by many. The family will remember her as one of the strongest women they have ever known.

She was a dedicated homemaker and always said she loved working with food. Many will remember her famous cabbage rolls. When she retired in the early 1980’s, she was the cook at Vaccaro’s Restaurant in Springfield Township.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Nativity of the Lord Jesus Catholic Church, 2425 Myersville Road, Akron on Tuesday, January 15 at 11 a.m. Family will receive friends at the church, one hour prior to the service. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
