Obituary for Carole Ruth Francis

Carol R. Francis, 82, passed away March 13, 2022. Carol was born on August 3, 1939 in Youngstown, Ohio to Sarah Aaron and Delbert Hoffman (Mary Hoffman). Preceded in death by her parents, brother Ronald Hoffman, and loving husband Daniel Francis. She is survived by her daughter Debra Francis (Rayna Graham); grandchildren Danueal Francis, Gary Francis, and Tiffani Francis; great-grandchildren Tyler Bland, Taylor Bland, Tyson Bland and Eli Nemeth; and great-great grandchild Emory Simpkins; along with other relatives.

At a young age Carol was a farm girl. That’s where she developed her love for all animals. In her teenage years she loved cooking with her aunts. As she got older, she worked as a server most of her adult life. She was very social and met most of her friends during her time at the Wolf Ledge Club, and that’s where she got the nickname Big Red. She finally found her true love, Daniel Francis and later in life they were blessed with their beautiful daughter Debbie Francis who meant the whole world to them. She was the light of her life and was so proud of her. Carol was not only a mother and blessed to have Debbie, she was also like a second mom to many other close kids who became family. Carol’s house was the house all those kids and friends loved going to. Carol had a heart of gold and it truly showed in her love for her three grandchildren which she adored, that she gained from her daughter and Gary Dillon. Who at times she bumped heads with, but still had great love for. She appreciated him as a father for her grandchildren and everything he did for her. Her heart grew even more when she was blessed with four great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. Carol felt she gained another daughter, Rayna Graham who she loved very much. They had a special bond and shared many of the same interests.

Carol was a very strong, outspoken, kind, and stubborn woman. Her hobbies included bowling which she loved enough to join leagues. Her other hobbies were gambling, slot machines, and cards. Poker was her favorite card game to play with her friends including her best friend, Louise. Her love of gambling led her to visit Las Vegas. Carol loved to shop and spoil everyone especially her daughter and all her grandchildren. Carol enjoyed music, dancing, sunflowers, and Coca-Cola. Her favorite dance to do was the jitterbug. Carol’s wish was for her loved ones to not focus on the sadness, but to embrace the beautiful life she lived and let that bring them joy.

Carol’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 19 from 11:00 am until 11:30 am. at Dunn-Quigley funeral home, 811 Grant St, Akron, Ohio 44311. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
