Obituary for Clifford A. Johnson MD

Clifford A. Johnson, M.D., of Silver Lake, passed away at the age of 98 on September 30, 2022. He was the loving husband of Hazel (deceased) for 67 years and dear father of Clifford (Angela), Steven (Henrietta), Gary (Leonette), David (Diane), Alan (Doreen), Carol Young (Doug) and Michael. He was the grandfather of 14 and great-grandfather of 17. Cliff was born and raised in Nampa, Idaho and attended Nampa High School, the College of Idaho and Creighton University School of Medicine graduating in 1948. Upon graduation, he joined the Navy and served in active duty until 1954. He was an active participant in the Naval Reserve from 1954 to 1968. He retired with the rank of Commander, MC USNR. He practiced Occupational Medicine in various companies and eventually found employment with The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio. He served as a staff physician from 1954 to 1965 before becoming their Corporate Medical Director from 1965 to 1989 when he retired. Clifford and Hazel kept busy raising their 7 children and participating in their church and community. He was active for many years in Parish Council at St. Joseph Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister.He also volunteered with CYO. During his career, Clifford served on numerous boards including Summit County Children and Family Services, the former Litchfield Rehabilitation Center, Edwin Shaw Hospital for Rehabilitation and the Health Trustee Institute. He was a Clinical Assistant Professor of Occupational Medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University from 1980-1990. Clifford spent his retirement years traveling and was an avid reader and cross puzzler. He especially enjoyed learning about Native American culture and history. He was a loving and supportive husband and father as well as a very proud grandpa. He enjoyed staying in touch with his grandchildren and hearing about their adventures and accomplishments.

Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church, 1761 2nd Street, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, on Thursday, October 6 at 11:00 a.m.
Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery (private). A special thanks to the staff at Jennings of Garfield Heights for the care given to him the last two years. In lieu of flowers, please remember him with a donation to your favorite charity
