Obituary for David George Freilich

David G. Freilich, 78, of Kent passed away on July 4, 2022 after a prolonged illness.
He was born in Akron and had retired as a driver for Yellow Freight after more than 30 years of service. David proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for four years before being honorably discharged.
He was a member of the American Legion, Charles Faust Post #281 in Cuyahoga Falls. He served as leader of the Honor Guard presiding over military funerals for service members. He was a member of the 40 and 8 Voiture and also the Marine Corps League where he rang the bell for the kettle at Christmas time.
He was also the conductor for the train which replicated the trains used in World War I which were hauled by 40 soldiers or 8 horses (thus the 40 & 8 Train). On that replica train he gave rides to children at Christmas and Easter times. That was Dave’s big highlight, taking kids for rides on the train.
He is survived by loving wife of 44 years, Juanita; her family and special sister, Shelly; very good friends, “Scooter”, Bob and Aimee, and Jack Mench; comrades from Post 281, special mentor, Roy Roberts; and his favorite friend, his dog, “Mighty”,
Friends may call at the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home (811 Grant St.) on Monday, 7/11 from noon until 1:00 when the Chaplain of the American Legion Post 281 will officiate at a funeral service. Interment with military honors will follow at 2:30 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
We’d like to thank the special nurses of the fifth floor hospice at Akron City Hospital for their kind and loving care of David.
