Obituary for Elizabeth J. Vitullo (D'Urso)

Elizabeth “Betty” Vitullo (nee D’Urso), 84, of Stow, Ohio passed away surrounded by family on December 29, 2022 after a 12 year struggle with Alzheimer’s.

Betty was born on March 28, 1938 to her parents Andrew and Concetta D’Urso in Youngstown, Ohio. After graduating from Rayen High School in 1955 she earned her Radiology Certificate and became an X-Ray Specialist at St. Elizabeth Hospital. After a 15-year hiatus as a housewife, she resumed her radiology career in the Akron area and eventually retired from Summa Health Systems.

In 1958 Betty married Donald Vitullo, her high school sweetheart, and went on to have four children, Mark, Rick (Elizabeth), Andy (Pamela), and Marianne (Paul). She and Don moved to Stow, Ohio in 1965 and spent the remainder of their lives there together, raising their children and grandchildren while traveling the world at every opportunity, with Don preceding her in death 6 years earlier.

Betty was a faithful and active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Stow. In her retirement she became an officer with the International Institute, a charitable organization that assisted immigrants in relocating to Akron.

With her mother Concetta over her shoulder, Betty became a gourmet Italian cook whose holiday parties dazzled family and friends.

Betty is survived and missed by her brother John, her four children, and forever cherished and remembered by her grandchildren, Andrew (Sara) and his daughter Isabel, Gina (Chuck) and Joseph. She also leaves behind dozens of cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren, and life-long friends who were central to her life.

Calling hours at Dunn-Quigley in Stow - Tuesday, January 3 from 6-8 PM. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Church in Stow on Wednesday, January 4 at 11 AM, with a reception to follow.
