Obituary for Eric J. Jarrett

Eric James Jarrett, 71, of Richmond Heights, Ohio, passed away on May 16, 2023, after a brief illness. Born in Stow, Ohio, on November 22, 1951, to James T. and Regina M. (Lewis) Jarrett, he attended Stow City Schools and graduated from Stow High School in 1969. He enlisted in the Air Force after high school, attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, in 1970 and was deployed to Vietnam, and was discharged from the Air Force in 1973. Upon his return from Vietnam he attended Kent State University, eventually earning a Master’s Degree in Library Science. Eric was a teacher at Maplewood Joint Vocational School in Ravenna for 10 years. He would later go back to Kent State to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. During this time he was also a soldier in the Army Reserves. His reserve unit was activated twice: to Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti in 1994, and to Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. He worked as a registered nurse for over 25 years in several area hospitals, including the Veterans’ Administration Hospital in Brecksville. Most recently he was a community hospice nurse for Hospice of the Western Reserve, where he was employed until his death. He is survived by his wife, Eve Stamm Jarrett; son Patrick Jarrett; daughter Jessica (Chris) Gaton, grandsons Arthur and Hiram; stepchildren Jeffrey McIntosh, Michael McIntosh, and Sarah McIntosh; sisters Karen (Jim) Christner of Tucson, AZ, Lisa (William) Scott of Waynesville, NC, and Lynn (William) Lloyd of Home, WA, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Regina, and his elder brother, Thomas B. Jarrett. He will be memorialized with a ceremony at The Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery (Rittman) at 10175 Rawiga Rd, Seville, OH 44273, on July 11, 2023, at 2:15 p.m..
Calling hours will be held after the memorial ceremony on July 11, 2023, from 5-8 p.m. at Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home at 3333 Kent Road, Stow, OH 44224. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve.
