Obituary for Geraldine L. Roberts (Doyle)

Geraldine L. Roberts (Doyle)
Geraldine L. Roberts, 94, passed away on May 9, 2018 while residing at The Village at St. Edwards. Born in Akron, the daughter of the late David and Sarah Doyle, she grew up in Firestone Park where she graduated from St. Paul’s Grade School and Garfield High School. After she married Judson Eugene Roberts, they raised their family on North Hill where they were members of St. Martha’s Parish. Geraldine was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and also was involved as a Cub Scout Den Mother. For many years she and her husband enjoyed playing bridge every month with their life-long friends. Although busy with her own family, she saw to it that all of her children’s friends were also welcome. A mother to every kid in the neighborhood she made sure that everyone was taken care of and well fed.
As her children grew older she had numerous careers outside the home: Acme Stores, Sears, Polsky’s Tea Room, and Akron Dime Bank. In 1982 she and her husband retired to Surfside Beach, South Carolina. Geraldine thought of these years as some of the happiest of her life. In her new home she became active at St. Michael’s Parish. She continued to enjoy her bridge club and after her husband passed away in 1989, she became a professed member of the Third Order of St. Francis. Besides reaching her goal weight and becoming a Life-Member of Weight Watchers, she also worked as a greeter.

The joy and love which she brought to so many will be sadly missed.
Her survivors include sons, Judson D. (Mary), Richard A. (Susan), Randolph H. (Margaret); daughter, Michelle J. Burger; sister, Mary Margaret Clair; grandchildren, Barbara McGhee, Deborah (Bruce) Korodi, Judson J. (Juli) Roberts, Christopher Roberts, Elizabeth (John) Kline, Amy Roberts, Dennis (Kelly) Roberts, and Laura (John) Kesterson, Charles (Rachel) Burger, and Bridgette (Brandon) Kraus; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel at the Village at St. Edwards where friends may call from 10 until Mass time. Interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Conway S.C. will take place at a later date.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff at St. Edwards and Cross Roads Hospice for their professional and loving care.
