Obituary for Gloria Marie Ciavarella (Cortesi)

Gloria M. Ciavarella (nee Cortesi), 85, has passed away after a long illness. Gloria was born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio to Tito and Victoria (Pitts) Cortesi on Christmas Eve 1935. She graduated from St. Vincent High School in Akron and attended Kent State University. Married in 1960 to the love of her life, Nicholas J. Ciavarella Sr., they had three children.
Gloria was a loving wife and mother. She was a longtime member of Holy Family Parish in Stow. She volunteered at Holy Family Parish School and Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls. Gloria enjoyed having family parties during the holidays, especially at Christmas and on the 4th of July, her son TJ’s birthday. She delighted in taking photos of family events. Hers, simply, was a life well lived with family and friends.
Gloria is preceded to heaven by husband, Nick J. Ciavarella Sr., parents, Tito and Victoria Cortesi, and parents-in-law, Antonio and Marie (Franco) Ciavarella, brothers, Daniel and Vincent Cortesi, sisters, Viola Petley, Mary Lou Matthews, and Deanna Viers, niece, Nancy (Ciavarella) King, nephews, James Cortesi and Richard Ciavarella, sisters-in-law Clotilde (Franchi) Cortesi, Mary (Scalera) Cortesi, Grace (Battista) Ciavarella, Nancy (Ruggieri) Ciavarella, and Emanuela (Ciavarella) LoCascio, brothers-in-law Emanuel Ciavarella, Angelo Ciavarella, Phillip LoCascio, Antonio Ciavarella Jr, Jerome Dalton, Thomas Petley, and Charles Viers, all so lovingly missed.
Gloria is survived by sons, Nick J. Ciavarella Jr., and TJ (Megan) Ciavarella, daughter, Nikkimarie Ciavarella, sister-in-law, Caroline (Ciavarella) Dalton and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Gloria’s care was one of teamwork lead by her daughter. TJ, Megan, and Nick Jr. will forever be grateful to Nikkimarie’s selfless care for their mother all these years. While Gloria is now an angel in heaven, Nikkimarie is truly an angel on earth.
Nikkimarie would like to thank past and present co-workers, managers, and supervisors in the CCU and HLU at Summa Akron City Hospital for their understanding, kindness, and support throughout the years, “caring for my mom was made a lot easier because of all of you, blessings to you and your families.”
There will be no calling hours. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday March 1 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, adhering to Covid-19 safety protocols, followed by private interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Gloria's name to Summa Hospice Care, Akron and/or Holy Family Parish, Stow.
