Obituary for Jerry G. "Chick" Ickes

Jerry G. Ickes, 92, of Munroe Falls went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 18 while surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his own home. He was born July 29,1928 in Lucerne Mines, PA the son of the late Beamer and Mary Ickes, he was a long-time area resident. He married the love of his life, Athelda Ickes on July 28,1948 in Homer City, PA recently celebrating 72 years of a remarkable marriage. He had retired as a truck driver for the Mason-Dixon Company after 31 years of service celebrating one million miles of safe driving. Jerry was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing Akron Silver League Softball for 27 years. He was a member of the Adoniram-Joppa Masonic Lodge #517 as well as attending the Graham Road Baptist Church and retired U.S. Navy veteran. Jerry, also referred to as Chick was a stranger to no one and was a wonderful example of a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

His survivors include wife, Athelda I. (Henry); children, Richard J. (Deborah) Ickes, John A. (Vickie) Ickes, Daniel K. (Susan) Ickes, and Beverly A. (Rusty) Etling; grandchildren, Jeweldeen (Bernie) Harland, Matthew (Kim) Ickes, Jennifer (Jonathan) Jackson, Benjamin (Becky) Ickes, Jason (Jennifer) Foit, Ivy Ickes, April (Donnie) Williams, Gary (Emily) Ickes, Brandon (Krystal) Ickes, Sherica (Carl) Eberhardt, Brian Etling, Brianna (John) Turner; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Fae Ickes; and sister-in-law, Dee Ickes. He was preceded in death by his son, Larry Ickes; daughter-in-law, Linda Ickes; sister, Eva Johnston; and brothers, Jack Rowland and Robert Ickes.

DUE TO HEALTH CONCERNS THE CHURCH SERVICE AND CALLING HOURS AT THE CHURCH HAVE BEEN CANCELLED.


The family will receive friends on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Dunn-Quigley Stow Chapel (3333 Kent Rd. at Rt. 91). PLEASE WEAR A MASK AND OBSERVE SOCIAL DISTANCING
