John Ward Dunnington Jr, 72, of Akron OH passed away on February 23rd after a brief battle with cancer surrounded by his children and his girlfriend Jean. We were blessed with such warm weather in February that we spent as much time as possible outside on his deck or driving in his Jeep to go on nature walks. John never quit fighting and would often quote “Always can do.”
John was born on October 28th, 1950 to Naomi McCloskey and John Dunnington Sr in Akron, OH.
John was a veteran of the Vietnam war, and after returning he achieved a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Kent State University.
John has worked for Coca-Cola for over forty years in positions across the company. He loved his more recent position as a CDL trainer where he got to help others learn while being able to get outside.
John was an active man and loved anything to keep him outdoors. He stayed fit through regular interval training, and he was previously active as a Master Black Belt at T.C. Choi Tae Kwon Do.
John is predeceased by his parents and his sister Patricia Kennedy. He is survived by his three children Scott (Sarah) Dunnington, Corine Zellia, Kyle Dunnington; his four grandchildren Addison, Alaina, Glen and Zoe; and his girlfriend Jean Taylor. He loved playing with his grandchildren and was quick to get on the floor to play and roughhouse with them.
There will be a private memorial service and John will be interned at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks you make a donation in his name to the American Cancer Society. https://donate3.cancer.org/?campaign=default
