John D. “Jack” Matthews, 83, of Stow passed away on January 16, 2021.  Born in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late John and Adelaide Matthews, Jack was a long-time resident of Stow.  He was retired from the Solon School System where he served as a Guidance Counselor for more than 30 years.  He was an active member of Holy Family Parish.  His many fraternal and social memberships include the Cuyahoga Falls F.O.E., the VFW, and the American Legion to name a few.

His survivors include wife of 58 years, Patricia; daughter, Lori (Steve) Vitt; sons, John and George; sister, Janet (Ed) Tatters; brother, Ron (Judy);  grandchildren, James, Jessica, Nick, Nicole, Kelly, Christina, and Tyler; great-grandchildren, Brayden and Maci.

Jack dedicated many years to inspiring teens as a high school guidance counselor. He traveled the world with his wife to over sixty countries.  Even in his eighties, he had more friends than most.  He would see them weekly at the local Arby’s and the Eagles’ Wednesday poker games. Jack also enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Steelers fan all his life.
