Obituary for Joseph F. Nieznany

Joseph Nieznany, 96, of Akron passed away on October 21. A lifetime Akron resident, he was born February 2, 1921 to the late Frank and Bessie Nieznany. Mr. Nieznany was a graduate of Garfield High School, Class of '39. During World War II he served with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre and was a holder of The Purple Heart, Presidential Citation, 3 Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and a Certificate of Merit. In 1983 he retired from B.F. Goodrich after 43 years of service. He was an all around athlete and loved all sports especially golf and bowling. He was a member of B.F. Goodrich Local #5, 20 Year Club and was a long time member of St. Paul's Catholic Parish.
In 2008 he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary (Zeno); and in 2015 by his daughter, Linda Brown.
He is survived by daughter, Diane Black; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchilden; and 5 great-great grandchilden; and many friends.
Graveside services will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 10:00 at Holy Cross Cemetery with military honors rendered by Firestone VFW Post 3383.
