Obituary for Luz Celenia Vera (Cordero)

Luz Celenia Vera, 84, passed away on January 24, 2019. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico to the late Rafael Cordero and Guadalupe Negron, she move to this area more than 50 years ago. A member of St. Bernard's Parish she was actively involved in the Spanish speaking community there. She was influential in helping to establish the Spanish Mass there in 1982. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister and was part of the Divine Mercy Devotional Group. Luz was known for her kindness and generosity and was always willing to help others.
She will be sadly missed by her family: aunt Alta Martinez; daughter, Wanda Alfman; sons, Antonio Vera, Jr., Edgardo Vera, and Ivan Vera; sister, Maria Pagan; brothers, Vitin Aliers, and Ramon Aliers; and especially her grandchildren, Joshua, Ashley, Amber, Samuel and Megan; and great-granddaughter, Rowyn. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Manuela Aliers and Ada Cordero; and brothers, Felix Aliers and Juan Aliers.
Calling hours will be on Friday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home (811 Grant St.). Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
