Obituary for Mary Dale Patko

Mary Dale Patko, longtime Norton resident and advocate of her family, passed at the age of 88 on December 16, 2020, due to complications from COVID -19.

Mary loved her family, lengthy conversations, dogs, bowling, and the challenge of a new puzzle book. She was fond of challenging household renovations and left detailed documentation of the creative resources used in each process.

Mary took her role as a family leader to heart and helped mentor her eight brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews throughout their lives. Mary was dedicated to the loving care of her mother, Catherine Maddox, and helped maintain the family’s original Norton home as centerpiece. Mary’s kindness and loyalty will forever be appreciated by her entire extended family.

After graduating from Norton High School, Mary served in the U.S. Army for four years in West Germany. While enlisted, Mary rose to the rank of Master Sergeant and was extremely grateful for her chance to serve her country. She worked for IBM in New York, New York, for a short time before moving back permanently to Ohio. Mary was an employee of Wright Tool and Forge in Barberton, Ohio, until her retirement.

Mary was predeceased by her brothers James Maddox and Harry Maddox; her sisters
Martha Ingersoll and Dorothy Arbogast, and her niece Debbie Ingersoll. Mary leaves behind her brothers Richard Maddox and Charles (Kris) Maddox; and her sisters Genevieve Gipson and Kathy (Joe) Kasper; her nieces Laura (Paul) Mcelroy, Joan Gipson, Lisa (Bob) Hasenyager, Becky (Shane) Kounz, Nicole (Chuck) Chittick, Amy (Dave) Miller; and her nephews Scott (Jackie) Arbogast, David Gipson, James (Janet) Ingersoll, and Steven (Jaime) Ingersoll.
