Obituary for Mary Evelyn "Penny" Richmond (Smith)
STOW - Mary “Penny” Evelyn Richmond, 78, born October 19, 1943, passed peacefully in her home after her battle with pancreatic cancer on November 5, 2021.
Penny was born in Akron and raised in Tallmadge, Ohio. Graduating from Tallmadge High School in 1962, she met her high-school sweetheart and lifelong partner, Bob. She was a resident of Stow for over 50 years.
Penny devoted much of her life caring for her family, helping others, and spreading joy through her skilled crafting. Penny was a member of the group People Serving People (PSP) for over 10 years, as well as the Akron Car Club for 9 years.
Penny is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph E. and Mary Smith and brother, Ralph M. Smith. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert “Bob” Richmond Jr., daughters Rosalie Mashek, Shannon (Jim) Cleckner, grandchildren, Tyler Mashek, and Hannah Mashek. Penny leaves behind many other family members and friends.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Thursday, November 11th, 2021 from 5-7 PM. Chaplain Claude McCutcheon will conduct a service at 7 PM following visitation at Dunn-Quigley Stow Chapel (3333 Kent Rd. at Rt. 91).
In lieu of flowers, per her request, memorials may be made to Penny’s beloved sewing group, People Serving People c/o Fran Houser, 817 Rose Ave., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221.
