Obituary for Mary Jacqueline "Jackie" Semonin (Herring)

Our Queen is Gone
Mary Jacqueline “Jackie” Semonin (Herring) went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and back into the arms of her husband John Joseph “Jack” Semonin on November 12, 2022.
Born in Wheeling, West Virginia, to Sarah “Sally” Herring and Stephen Herring on May 26, 1931, she was one of four children: devoted older sister and dear friend Jeannine Morris, younger brother’s Jerry and sweet Jay “JP” Herring.
Jackie grew up in Cuyahoga Falls attending St. Joseph’s then graduating from St. Vincent High School in 1949. A proud ‘49er, Jackie frequented many class gatherings throughout the years until the 2020 pandemic prohibited in-person meetings. Her friends brought much happiness, but it was one person in particular she met in high school that brought her the ultimate joy – the love of her life, Jack. The two sweethearts married in 1952. Their love overflowed, bringing nine children into the world.
Jackie attended Hammel Business College obtaining a job at Ohio Edison working with the switchboard. She loved the esteemed, fast-paced environment and extra income before her family was started. She then raised her family in Stow. Although her husband and children were her main priority, in her modest settings, the door was always open to anyone in need and a seat at the dinner table was available to anyone hungry. A caregiver at heart, she was living her dream as a wife and mother to her nine children. Hosting notorious parties for her family, their extended families, and neighbors, she never needed an excuse to bring people together to enjoy each other’s company or have fun. During several holiday seasons she would bake cookies to sell and pluck feathers at the local turkey farm to help finance her young family’s joy. Her ginger snaps and kuchen were coveted at holiday gatherings, and her Christmas cookies were among all of her children's and grandchildren’s favorites. If one of them needed a patch sewn or a zipper fixed, she was the one to do it, as she was an accomplished seamstress. During the summers she would take her kids and grandkids to her condo’s pool to swim. She would walk the grounds with them at her apartment in Silver Lake Towers, counting deer and pointing out cardinals. As a huge fan of soft-serve ice cream, she could be found at Stow Cone and Stoddard’s during the summer, but not before getting a hot dog with relish. She was a lover of music, enjoying many genres that reminded her of her late husband and her faith in God. No matter the situation one would find themselves in, she would never pass judgment and would always root for the underdog. She was an absolute sweetheart to all through the very end.
Jackie's heart lives on in her nine children: Dr. Renee’ (Micke) Holleran, Amy (Roger) Kramer, Joe (Janet) Semonin, Sarah (Steve) Anderson, Monica Babbitt, Simon (Candy) Semonin, Mary (Johnny) Kisner, Laura Schauer, and Jennifer (Rick) Marefka; twenty-four grandchildren: Erin, Sara, Kara, John, Brooke, Stefanie, Becky, Drew, Geena, Joey, Jessi, Jared, Tiffany, Cassie, Alex, Hannah, Matthew, Jonah, Benjamin, Andrew, Daniel, Brittney, and Ashley; twenty-three great-grandchildren: Charles, Albert, Simon, Benjamin, Maddie, Mason, Maddox, Lilley, Gabby, Blake, Alyza, Calee, Maddison, Ryland, Wyatt, Owen, Ava, Luke, Cora, Lochlan, Adaline, Conner and Annabelle Sunshine, and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
Jackie is preceded in death by her mother and father Sally and Stephen Herring, husband Jack, and granddaughter, Lena Kramer.
A funeral Mass will take place at Holy Family Catholic Parish in Stow on November 23, 2022, visitation at 10AM, Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM. Family and friends are invited to join in singing her into Amazing Grace followed by a luncheon of celebration. For those unable to attend a live stream will be broadcast at: https://youtu.be/FoR8NqaPUD8 .

Special thanks to Heidi, from Seniors Helping Seniors, and all the caregivers at Sunrise Assisted Living and Traditions Hospice in Cuyahoga Falls.
