Obituary for Maxine Auckland (Edwards)
Maxine Jeanette Edwards Auckland went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Friday, August 23, 2019, at 5:41 pm. She passed peacefully into Heaven while her husband, Douglas, daughters, granddaughter and great-grandson were at her bedside, softly singing, "I'll Fly Away".
She is survived by her husband, Douglas; her children: Karen Silvestri (husband, Pastor Joe), Cindy Bender (husband, Alex Clarke), Pam Gard (husband, Cad), Brian Auckland (wife, Chris), Doug Auckland, Jr. (wife, Lori), and Margie Beamer (husband, Mark);
...grandchildren: Rachel (Chris) Franks, David (Michelle) Silvestri, Joseph (Lisa) Silvestri, John (Rachelle) Silvestri; Scott and James Bender, Rebecca (Sean) Froehlich; Philip Fowler, Katie (Chris) Doohan; Bridgette and Thomas Auckland; Kalee, Aiden, Kyle (Abbi) Auckland, Kristen (Anthony) Brandenburg; Eric (Liz) Lloyd, Marianne (Alex) Garey, Sarah (Steve) Mitcheff, Hannah (Mike) Jones, Abigail and Joshua Lloyd, and Austin Beamer;
...and 42 great-grandchildren.
Maxine was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on August 2, 1930, to Margaret H. (Mallette) and James E. Edwards. Her father died in an automobile accident when she was only five years old.A wealthy philanthropist arranged and paid for her to attend Andrews School for Girls in Willoughby, Ohio, where she was trained as an executive secretary from junior high school until her graduation in 1950. During high school and following graduation, she worked as a secretary for the General Electric Company at Nela Park in Cleveland.
Maxine met Douglas on a blind date, and they were married while he was home on leave from the Army on July 24, 1951, at St. Philomena's Church in Cleveland. After a one-week honeymoon in Michigan, Doug returned to active duty in Japan for 18 months
In 1960, they moved to Stow, Ohio, where they brought up their six children. They were active in the Stow Jaycees, a civic organization, for many years, as well as being faithful members of Holy Family Parish.
Maxine worked for the Terex Corporation in Hudson as a secretary from 1971 until it closed in 1983, then as the office manager at Coyote Loader Sales in Streetsboro, until her retirement in the early 2000's.
After retirement, she gave herself to her favorite pastime - shopping for delightful, thoughtful gifts for her loved ones.
The most important day is her life is April 25, 2016, when she asked the Lord Jesus Christ to come into her heart as her personal Lord and Saviour! Her life after that was marked by a peace that passeth all understanding...
That fall, she entered the Aftercare nursing home in Stow, where she resided until she and Doug moved to the Avenue at Wooster in the fall of 2018. The family is grateful for the wonderful, loving care she received at both homes.
She will assuredly be missed, not only by her family and friends, but by all who knew her. Her loving heart and kind ways endeared her to all who had the pleasure of meeting and/or knowing this remarkable lady!
