Obituary for Rev. William H. Severt
The Reverend William H. Severt, Senior Priest-Retired died Saturday, 8 April 2023, after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments.
William H. Severt was born on 16 July 1948. His parents were the late Howard and Rose (Yost). He was educated at St. Vincent Elementary, Akron, Borromeo Seminary High School, Wickliffe, Borromeo Seminary College, Wickliffe, St. Mary Seminary, Cleveland. On 8 June 1974 in Gesu Church, University Hts., Ohio, Bishop Clarence G. Issenmann ordained him to the priesthood for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland.
Father Servert’s first assignment was as Parochial Vicar of St. Clement, Lakewood. He was transferred on 1 May 1975 to serve SS. Cosmas & Damian, Twinsburg as Parochial Vicar and was named Administrator pro tem on 13 April 1978. On 24 June 1980 Fr. Severt was appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Joseph, Cuyahoga Falls. In addition he served as Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus #2362. He was transferred on 18 June 1981 to serve St. Eugene, Cuyahoga Falls as Parochial Vicar. During his assignment he served as a temporary assistant at Akron General Hospital effective 8 April 1982. On 30 June 1982 Fr. Severt was appointed Parochial Vicar of Immaculate Heart of Mary, Cuyahoga Falls. On 16 January 1986 he was appointed Chaplain of Euclid General Hospital. During his assignment he was appointed Administrator pro tem of St. Peter, Akron effective 28 July 1986. Fr. Severt was named Pastor of St. Peter, Akron on 25 November 1986. He was transferred on 30 April 1990 to serve St. Peter, North Ridgeville as Parochial Vicar. On 19 June 1990 Fr. Severt was appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Charles Borromeo, Parma. On 16 June 1999 he was appointed Chaplain of Marymount Hospital, Garfield Hts. Fr. Severt was transferred 1 February 2000 to serve St. Joseph, Cuyahoga Falls as Parochial Vicar. On 1 July 2000 he was appointed Chaplain of University Hospital, Cleveland where he served until his retirement on 1 March 2017. Fr. Servert was a quiet man who attended to the sick and suffering with great care through his many years of hospital ministry. May God reward him for his faithful service.
Vespers will not be celebrated. Visitation will take place from 7pm to 9pm at the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home, Stow Chapel (3333 Kent Rd. At Rt. 91) on Monday 10 April 2023. Visitation will resume at 9:00 am on Tuesday, 11 April 2023 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church (1905 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223). The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 11 April 2023 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church at 11:00am. Bishop Michael G. Woost will be the main celebrant. Interment All Saints Cemetery, Northfield.
