Obituary for Dorothy G. "Dot" Robert (Goodwin)

Dorothy G. "Dot"  Robert (Goodwin)
Dorothy Goodwin Robert, 90, longtime resident of Stow and then Uniontown, passed away September 15, 2014. Dot, or Dottie as her husband affectionately called her, was raised in Cullman, Ala. After graduating from Sacred Heart Academy, she entered nursing school. Having fallen in love with her husband to be, Richard R. Robert, they married in 1944, just as Dick received his US Army commission. Work with Goodyear brought them to Akron where they settled in Stow in the early 1950’s and then raised their family of five children. A nearly life long member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Dot was actively involved in Girl Scouts and various other church and school activities. Although an avid bridge player, hobbyist square dancer and “antiquer”, her main interests lay in her family. A loving wife and mother, Dot was a keen homemaker, particularly proficient as a seamstress. Together, Dick and Dot were snow birds in Florida, moved to Uniontown when they downsized, and became parishioners of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. They recently celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary.

Dot is survived by her husband, Dick Robert, sister Patricia ( Bob) Fulbright of Waynesville, North Carolina, children Rick Robert of Akron, Kathy Petrenko of Akron, Mary Dickerson (John) of London,UK, Larry ( Sue) of Uniontown, and Julie Burns (Bob) of Indianapolis, as well as Anna, Richie, Kara, and Courtney her four grandchildren, Kali Jane, her newly born great grandchild, and loving nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank the carers at Pebble Creek Nursing Home and also the caring staff of Crossroads Hospice. Calling hours will be 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday at the Dunn and Quigley Stow Chapel (3333 Kent Rd. at Rt.91). Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, interment Northlawn Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Holy Family School.
