Obituary for James V Welsh

James V. Welsh, 93, passed away December 5, 2014.

Born June 30, 1921, to Edward and Grace (Bly) Welsh, he was a life-long resident of the Akron area and lived in Cuyahoga Falls for the past 63 years. He was a proud graduate of St. Vincent High School and The University of Akron and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II where he earned the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and a Bronze Arrowhead. He retired from the General Tire and Rubber Company after more than 40 years of service.

He married the love of his life, Dorothy Louise McCarthy, May 15, 1943. They shared a full, loving and happy 68 years together until her death May 28, 2011. They loved each other completely and he was devoted and attentive to her as they grew older and faced the challenges that come with a long life. He had been ready to join her since the day she died.

“J.V.” was a good, decent man who worked hard and wasted little. He was loving and supportive of his four children, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was proud of his Irish heritage and dedicated to his Catholic faith, and to his parish, St. Joseph’s in Cuyahoga Falls, where he had been an active parishioner since 1951.

Preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sisters Mary and Joanne, he is survived by his daughter Susan Sansonetti (Patrick, deceased) of Boston Mass.; sons James V. Welsh Jr. (Carole) of Tallmadge; Thomas M. Welsh (Kathleen) of Bath and Timothy J. Welsh (Marilyn) of Richfield, Minn.; grandchildren, Patrick James, Michael and Kristin Sansonetti; Amy Bowe; Andrew, Thomas and Jeffrey Welsh; Katie King and Tony Schreck. His sister, Francis Welsh of Ceres, Calif., also survives him, as do his sisters-in-law, Sally Berg of Scottsdale Ariz., Pat Kelty of Corona, Calif., and Peg Andrews of Mishawaka, Ind.

Friends may call Monday, 5-8 p.m. at Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home, 3333 Kent Rd. in Stow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s, 1761 Second St., Cuyahoga Falls. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Joseph’s Educational Fund.

He lived as long as he wanted and never wanted as long as he lived.
