Obituary for Louis A. "Lou" Mancine

Louis A. Mancine, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, two days after his 78th birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis B. and Elizabeth Mancine. His survivors include his wife of 53 years, Barbara Ann; son, Louis A. Mancine, Jr.; his three daughters, Anne Marie Mancine, Kathy Burch, and Mary Ann Mancine; seven grandchildren and brother, Benjamin Mancine.

While in the Coast Guard, he served in the 9th Coast Guard Security District aboard the U.S. Cutter Unimac which was responsible for patrolling the Atlantic Coast from Key West to Nova Scotia.

He has received both Bachelors and Masters plus thirty degrees at Kent State University. Lou served Cuyahoga Falls and Aurora City Schools for 38 years, retiring as guidance counselor from Aurora High School in 1999. He was employed in plant security at General Electric for 23 summers.

Lou had a lifelong love of music and was an excellent trumpet player. While in high school and college he played bass violin and the trumpet for the Five Knights, a dance band that performed at weddings and parties. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Base Band in Cape May, New Jersey. He was also a member of the Cuyahoga Falls Community Band and the Western Reserve Community Band of Hudson.

A Third and Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, he also was a member of the American Legion and the Collinwood High School Memories Club.

He was a long time supporter of Stow High School athletic teams.

Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2 to 5:00 p.m. at the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home, Stow Chapel (3333 Kent Rd. at Rt. 91) where the Knights of Columbus will recite the Rosary at 4:30. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday at 11:00 at Holy Family Catholic Church, followed by interment at Silver Springs Cemetery where American Legion Post 281 will render military honors.
