I have a lot of fond memories of Gary growing up as neighbors and friends in my youth. He came from nice family, and they had the best cherry tree in the neighborhood. I can still remember Gary doing his best imitation of a German soldier being shot by machine gun fire when we played Army as young kids. He'd throw in what seemed to be a little latin learned from Mass at St. Martha Church along with his fake German, he saying "Sanctu Americano," which he told us meant "I hear Americans!"as he fell to the ground in a lengthy and and drawn out demise. Viv Morrow's Sergeant Saunders couldn't compete with Gary's dramatic acting. Gary was a unusually nice kid, compared to how typically boys might sometime act to one another, and he was always cheerful and ready to joke around and was good for a hearty laugh. I ran into Gary a few years ago, and that good nature was still present. I will always recall his ready laugh and kind heartedness. The world, as we all know, is often a hard, unforgiving place, but his presence softened that, and for that the world and his family will miss him I am sure. Rest in peace Gary. If there is a better world beyond, I am sure you will be there and fill it with your smile.
