Obituary for James D. Thomas

James D.  Thomas
STOW- James D. Thomas, age 88, of Stow, passed away late Monday evening at Akron City Hospital.

James was born February 22, 1925 in Kings Mills, Ohio to the late James and Thursa (Moore) Thomas.

He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber after 27 ½ years of service. A member of Ernest Angley’s Grace Cathedral, James was also a Mason. Member of Victory Lodge No. 649 F&AM, he supported the educational programs for disabled students. Other affiliations included United Rubber Workers Union #2.

James was a WWII Veteran. He served in US Army, 5th Medical Battalion.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife Iva Ruth (Carter) Thomas, his youngest son Jay Dee Thomas and siblings Herman Thomas, Spencer Smithers, Ernest Smithers, and DelRose (Thomas) Wethington.

He is survived by his daughter Vicki Sue Thomas, oldest son Wayne D. Thomas, daughters-in-law Susan T. Thomas and Mary Thomas, three grandchildren, James Edward Thomas, Jessica Ann Thomas, and Jay Dee Thomas, one great grandson James Richard Thomas, and special niece Phillis Ray and special nephew Lloyd Burmeister.

Friends may call Tuesday July 23, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home, 3333 Kent Rd.(at Rt. 91) in Stow. Masonic service will be conducted at 7:30pm Tuesday; and the funeral service will be conducted at 11am Wednesday with Pastor Jim Case officiating. Burial in Northlawn Memorial Garden.
