Dan and I went to Warren City schools together and were good friends. A couple of years ago, I asked Dan to participate in my Boy Scouts of America National Youth Leadership Training opening flag ceremony, at Camp Stambaugh. He came dressed in his full American Revolutionary uniform, along with his grandson and Ken Hall. Dan and his crew did an outsanding job of getting 60 scouts started in this seven day outdoor training experience. The scouts really enjoyed how they added so much meaning to this flag ceremony. I have it all on video and it is a treasure.
Final note, Dan presented me with a hiking stick, that I cherish to this day. In honor of receiving that hiking stick, each of those 60 scouts during that training program, were given the opportunity of carrying that hiking stick. As I sit here today sending this condolence, that wonderful gift sits next to my desk.
May God Bless Dan in his new journey to Heaven. I was truly blessed to have shared a small part of my life with a wonderful person like Dan Garner.
God Bless & Good Scouting
